Tasty Tuesday: Soft Wrap Bread

Good morning!  I’m officially changing Tuesday’s title to Tasty Tuesday.  As much as I liked the Tasty or Terrible idea, I’m just not posting any terrible recipes.

This week’s tasty recipe comes from Mel’s Kitchen Cafe.  I’ve been following her blog since 2009.  She has so many tried and true recipes that my family loves!  This recipe I’ve been making since 2011.  It never fails.

The recipe calls for flour, water, salt, potato buds or flakes (from the box), yeast, and vegetable oil.  That’s all!  I keep a box of potato flakes on hand just for this recipe.

After letting the dough set for 2 hours, I roll out little balls

Then roll out the dough

Rolled out and ready to pan fry

A quick one minute dry fry

And you have perfect, soft, tasty wraps

We enjoy ours with sandwich meat, bacon, and ranch.  So good!

Tasty or Terrible: Baked Asparagus Fries

Happy Tuesday!

Do you like asparagus?  For the past three years I have bought bundles of asparagus but never cooked them.  I’ve wanted to but was too intimidated when it came down to actually doing it.  Since receiving the Damn Delicious cookbook and seeing this recipe in the book, I’ve been itching to make some.

I encourage you to make that vegetable that has you intimated.  It may turn out to be your new favorite side.  They were a hit in my family and I already have them back on the menu for next week.

Friday Favorites

Friday, so soon we meet again.  This week seemed to zoom on by.  It probably doesn’t help that our “schedule” doesn’t exist during summer…no set bedtimes, sleeping in, and lazy days for sure!

I’ve been making a point to actually water my garden daily over the past week as we’ve still been 90s & 100s.  I noticed I have a little zucchini sprouting!  I’m ready to eat my first garden zucchini!  Being this is only my second year of gardening, I still find it fascinating.  I had zero clue pertaining to gardening and love learning about it.  Did you know that zucchini have male and female flowers?  I didn’t.  The female flower is the one that actually produces the fruit as seen in my picture below with the pink arrow.  Here’s an interesting article that explains more, if you’re interested.

I’ll leave you with this favorite from the week.   One of my friends shared it on Instagram and I couldn’t help but relate.

{Bridget} I’m so happy that today’s Friday.  We have a fun surprise for the kids tomorrow that will include a road trip and possibly a hotel.  The hotel isn’t planned, but it’s their favorite place ever, so we might just make it happen.  Just because 😉

Working on puzzles has been a favorite.  This puzzle took less than 3 hours on and off.  We’re now working on a much larger, but smaller piece puzzle.  It’s taking a lot longer, but still just as much fun.

Watching the kids clean is always a favorite.  Even if it is with a toy set.  Sterling took her money to the store with us and she wanted this cleaning set.  Training her well, ha!


Playing outside after dinner has been our nightly highlight.  They look forward to it, even when it’s been 100 during the day.  It’s still in the 90s but feels so much better.  We’re not usually the family that goes out after dinner.  Since moving to VA, it’s been our favorite!

Being twins for the day was their favorite 😉


Our grill hasn’t worked since moving to VA.  Converting it from gas to charcoal has been my favorite move ever!  We bought it two months before moving last summer, so it didn’t get much use before the movers broke something on it.  I couldn’t see tossing it and buying new, so I told Nick I could buy a crate to put on the bottom for the charcoal to sit on.  While I was gone, he completely gutted it.  #teamwork


Sterling is so excited that her flower is blooming.  She’s been taking such good care of it!

Favorite buy of the week.  I love that it plugs right into the wall outlet.  No cords dangling.  I may have been confused by the screw in the middle.  Thanks to my mom, it made perfect sense 🙂  Of course, it would screw into where the wall screw came out #blondemoment

Tasty or Terrible: Slow-Cooker Chicken Burrito Bowls

Good morning!  Today’s recipe is from the Damn Delicious cookbook.  The author, Chungah Rhee, is genius.  Her recipes are damn delicious!

This recipe is for the slow cooker.  The perfect kind of meal in my opinion.  Especially on hot summer days and you’re not feeling like turning on the oven or cooking over the stovetop.

Slow-Cooker Chicken Burrito Bowls
The ingredients include:

1 lb boneless chicken breasts
2 cups chicken stock
14.5 oz can fire-roasted diced tomatoes
1 can chopped green chiles
1 can chipotle adobo
2 cloves garlic, minced
1-1/2 tsp chili powder
1 tsp cumin
1 tsp dried oregano
1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
kosher salt and pepper, to taste
1 cup long-grain white rice
15 oz black beans, drained and rinsed
15 oz can corn
1 cup shredded Cheddar cheese
1 Roma tomato, diced, for garnish
2 tbsp chopped fresh cilantro, for garnish
This was so so so good!  It will be on repeat in our menu rotation.
