Please excuse our absence. We’ve ran into a few kinks and are working them out now. We’ll be back on Friday with Friday Favorites. Don’t forget to check out our favorite pumpkin pie recipe and our gift ideas for kids.
Month: November 2016
Thanksgiving is one day away and it wouldn’t be complete without a serving of pumpkin pie. If it were up to my husband, this pie would be making a weekly appearance in our kitchen rather than yearly.
I’ll admit, I’ve never been highly skilled in the kitchen. I do, however, love to bake…as long as I have a recipe to follow. When it’s time to bake up our annual pumpkin pie, I always turn to the trusty recipe on the can of Libby’s 100% pure pumpkin. If you’re here looking for a fancy schmancy from scratch recipe, you won’t find that here in this post.
As a mom to four kiddos, it’s sometimes hard to squeeze in one-on-one time with each of my kids. Bode & I decided to take advantage of Maisyn’s naptime the other day. Rather than him playing Xbox and me doing laundry or dishes, we spent time together baking this delicious pumpkin pie. He’s only been requesting it for the past week. Like father, like son? Haha.
First, we gathered our supplies. Then we measured out the sugar and spices. I beat the eggs, added the pumpkin and whisked everything together as he dumped his mixture into mine. Then, he slowly poured the milk into the mixture as I gently stirred. We set that aside and I got to work pressing the dough into the pie dish. I poured the mixture into the crust and placed it in the oven. Looking at the clock on the microwave, I realized the timer would buzz after I left to pick up the girls from school. We ended up waiting and leaving later than usual. Also, instead of taking it out of the oven, I turned the oven off and left the pie in while I ran to get the girls.
Immediately upon arriving home and walking through the door, the fresh baked pumpkin pie aroma wafted into our noses.
As a result, Kinley begged to have some pie. I promised them we could have it for dessert, after supper. She helped me get the pie ready to serve to the rest of the family. While grabbing the Reddi-Wip from the refrigerator, she dropped it and it landed on its spout, which of course broke. Hubby was able to salvage it and make it usable. We dished out the pie slices and he loaded them with Reddi-Wip. I really wanted Cool Whip, but totally forgot to grab it out of the freezer earlier to thaw. Bode truly enjoyed his pumpkin pie, so much so he ate it like a slice of pizza. LOL!
What is your favorite pumpkin pie topping? Reddi-Wip, Vanilla Ice Cream, or Cool Whip?
If you’re not a fan of Libby’s Pumpkin Pie recipe, which one do you use?
Christmas is coming, and it’s coming quick. It’s time to start thinking about the gifts you’re buying for all the special people in your lives. I like to shop early and be done in September, but this year with moving, I just haven’t had time or let alone think about it. I’m in a pickle this year. Do you ever feel like you already have enough and don’t need anymore? That’s where I’m at right now. I typically buy something to wear, something to read, something they want, and something they need. It makes shopping a little bit easier.
For clothes, I shop at GapKids or Gymboree when they have their sales. I feel like their clothes are great quality and I know what their sizes run like on my kids. This year I might try something new for Xander and order him a subscription to a magazine, rather than a book. He’s really into magazines right now. They both will get electric toothbrushes. I think it will help in their brushing and hopefully make it easier and fun. It’s something I feel is needed.
How do you make Santa gifts special? Our Santa gifts are left unwrapped in front of the tree. It makes it easy for the kids to know what gifts are from him. They used to think all gifts came from Santa. So not cool when Santa gets all the credit. Here are some of my ideas this year.

Peppa Pig School Bus / Oh Peppa Pig, you are a hit this year.
Peppa Pig Playground / Sterling has been wanting this playground since August. It looks like fun and I can see her playing with it for a while.
American Girl Wellie Wisher / How cute are these dolls?! They are perfect for toddlers and big girls.
Zoomer Kitty / We have the MiP Robot and the kids love it. Sterling saw the kitty on a commercial one day and has been begging for it since. Amazon had a great price on it yesterday, check it out if it’s something your little one is asking for. I grabbed one while it was discounted!
Hot Wheels Track Set / My boy has been asking for a track that the cars go upside down, so this will be perfect.
Ninja Turtle Playset / This playset Xander is actually saving up for. He only has $40 left to save, but little does he know, I already bought it and he’ll get Christmas morning.
iTunes gift card / Giving a gift card would be appropriate for kids you just don’t know what to buy. Some people don’t feel it’s thoughtful, but why not? Buying a specific gift card is thoughtful because you are thinking about what that person would want. Only they get to pick out exactly what it is with the money you put on the card. Whether it’s a department store, a restaurant, or iTunes, a gift card is thoughtful.
Fujifilm Instax Mini / Cameras are coming back and kids are really loving them. This would be the perfect gift for the child who wants to capture their world through a lens.
What are some gifts your kids must have this Christmas? Do you have any traditions for buying or giving gifts?
Happy Friday, Friends! Who’s ready for the weekend? I am! I’m getting company for Thanksgiving, so I need to start prepping. We’re so excited to be linking up with Andrea, Erika, and Narci this week with Friday Favorites.
Sterling had school pictures this week and she looked so adorable. We had a different outfit picked out, but didn’t have shoes to go with it, so we switched up the outfit 30 minutes before heading out the door. The way she flashes her smiles are my favorite!
We took our family pictures finally. I hate pictures, but love how they turned out. I’m not showing any family pics until December, but here’s a sneak peak of their outfits.
We finally found the kids’ helmets! They were in the very last box to be unpacked from our move. We’re glad to have found them! Now I’ll let them ride their bikes farther than our little circle.
Xander lost his lunchbox this week, so I same day ordered this Yumbox and it’s our new favorite. It’s now on sale too.
We’ve had unseasonably warm fall weather in North Dakota! Makes it perfect for morning walks if it’s not too crisp and a gorgeous afternoon walk to pick up the big girls from school! And now that it’s Friday, we’re back to our normal weather in the 30s.
And a not-so-favorite. This little monkey was jumping on the bed. She then fell off and bumped her head. Her mama freaked out and thought we had to go to the ER. She was one lucky monkey with just a bit of blood and a small cut so no ER trip was necessary.
